Obituary

Funeral service for Harold Montgomery, 88, of Pryor, OK will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 20, 2015 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, OK. Visitation will be 12 Noon-2 P.M., Friday, March 20, 2015 at Moore's Southlawn.
Harold was born in Pryor, OK on June 11, 1926 to Claude and Mary (McKelvey) Montgomery. He died on March 17th at Claremore, OK.
He grew up in Salina, OK where he attended school before joining the Army in January 1945. He served in the Philippines as a truck driver for heavy equipment and was an expert infantryman. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, he married Norma Lea Walker on August 23, 1950. She preceded him in death on February 11, 1978. Harold continued his love of driving when he became a Tulsa bus driver in 1951 for Tulsa City Lines which later became MTTA. After many years behind the wheel of a bus, he became a supervisor for the bus company and retired after 40 years of service. Even after retirement, he stayed active by mowing lawns. He eventually left Tulsa and moved to Pryor to be closer to his siblings.
Survivors include his two children, Gail Roop and her husband, Sam Roop of Tulsa, and Doyle Montgomery of Tulsa. Grandchildren and their families are: Steven Roop and his wife Carie and sons Benjamin, Jack and Caine of Tulsa, Kelly Wilson and her husband Eric and their daughters Micah and Lydia of Tulsa, and Samantha Ready and her husband Robert and their children Robert and Abigail of California, and Doyle's daughter Sara Tucker and her husband Chris and their son Liam of Texas. He is survived by 6 siblings, Glen Montgomery and his wife Colleen, Inez Sellers and her husband Robert, Velma Hite and her husband Cliff, Joe Montgomery and his wife Sharon, Joyce Kerns and her husband Kenny, and Max Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mary Montgomery, brothers Gerald and Carl Montgomery, and sister Neoma Sproles. He was loved and will be missed by many.
