Obituary

Helen Weeks passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Thomas Weeks, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Puryear, her husband, Barry, and their son, Samuel; her son, Tom Weeks, his wife, Michelle, and their children, Cassondra and Sonya; her nephew, George Johnson, and his wife, Emma, and many relatives.

She was a kind, caring woman who loved her family.

Helen was born in Mill Creek, Oklahoma, on May 28, 1927, to George and Rena Rowe Nicholls. She was born at home and weighed 3 pounds. She had two sisters, Nicki and Wilrena. Their family lived in a pony express station until it burned. The family moved to a ranch in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. She attended Murray State College in Tishomingo and East Central University in Ada. Later she earned a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Tulsa.

She married Harve on March 12, 1949, in Sherman, Texas. After marriage, they lived in Atoka. After graduating from East Central, they moved to Rockford, Illinois, where Harve worked as an X-Ray Technician for the Swedish American Hospital. Later they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Helen was a school teacher. She began her career teaching business classes in Caney. Both she and Harve spent their careers in education with Tulsa Public Schools. A majority of her career was spent teaching kindergarten at Jane Addams Elementary, Revere Elementary, and McClure Elementary.

Helen was a good cook. (When she got married she knew how to make fudge and popcorn.) Family favorites included lemon meringue pie, apple and cherry pie, pecan brittle, and brownies.
She made many quilts. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting, and making crafts.

When she was a teenager, she went to California to help take care of her sister's son, George.
She loved George. She said that there was a special picture of George and she wondered what he was thinking of while sitting on that tree stump.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the employees of A-Vow Hospice in Broken Arrow and Legend at Mingo Road. Thank you for your loving care of Helen.
