Obituary

Herman E. Geurin, age 87, was called to his heavenly home surrounded by his family on Friday, February 10, 2017. He was born September 25, 1929 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Rufus H. Geurin and Beulah (nee Ward) Geurin. During his school aged years, Herman participated in sports and was introduced to drafting design in his woodworking class. Upon graduation from Bartlesville College High School in 1948, he began his professional career in drafting working for Phillips 66 in Bartlesville. In July of 1950, Herman married Delores P. VanHorn. The family was blessed with one son, Donald E. Geurin in January, 1956.

Herman had a passion for working with his hands. From the drafting table to the building of homes, a person could not only see his vision but the heart behind it. Over the course of his professional career, Herman designed and built 100s of homes in the Bartlesville and Tulsa area including the majority of the ones occupied by the family. Herman followed his philosophy, "It is better to build a whole new house than to add on to the existing one."

Herman and long time friend, Ted Locke, formed their own company, Diversified Design and Drafting in the mid 1970s. Their work centered around the Oil and Gas Industry. The two sold the business in 1989 at which time, Herman retired to pursue his hobbies of woodworking and traveling the country with Delores by his side. Spending time with family was always his top priority.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Paula Jean; and eldest brother, R. H. Geurin. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Delores; son, Don Geurin and wife Pati of Jenks; granddaughter, Sara E. Breland and husband Rick Breland of Abilene, Texas; brother, David M. Geurin and wife Donna of Billings, Montana; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, long-time friends and neighbors.

Herman will lie in state on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and celebration of Herman's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, both at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st Street, Tulsa, OK.
