Hernando Velásquez passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 28th surrounded by his loved ones. He is preceded in death by his mother Bárbara Rosa Gómez Mejía, father Eduardo Velásquez Botero, sister Gabriela Velásquez, brother Julio César Velásquez, sister-in-law María Beatriz Romero De Velásquez, and nephew Julio César Velásquez Romero. He is survived by his wife María Cristina Velásquez Carvajal, daughter Luisa Cristina Velásquez, sister María Bertha Velásquez, brother Rodrigo Velásquez, sister-in-law Mary Velásquez, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Hernando was born in Aranzazu, Colombia on October 9, 1936. He moved to Tulsa, OK in 1968 with his mother in order to be with his brother Rodrigo & sister Bertha after their father's passing. He became a naturalized citizen in 1974 and made his home in Tulsa, OK. Hernando and his wife married in 1985 and their daughter was born in 1986. Hernando completed his bachelors in Architecture in Bogotá Colombia. He worked as an architect in Colombia and Tulsa, but later returned to school for computer programming. He worked as a computer programmer until he retired from Texaco in 1995. His hobbies included traveling, astronomy, photography, and playing the classical guitar. However, the most important thing to Hernando was his family. His memorial service will be held in the chapel on the grounds of the Calvary cemetery at 10 am Wednesday, December 4th. Hernando passed away from pancreatic cancer, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
