Obituary

Herschel Geddie, 94, of Tulsa, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on the morning of Monday, December 3, 2018.
Herschel Darnell Geddie was born in Waco, Texas on November 21, 1924 to Herbert and Inez Geddie.
In 1943 Herschel served in the United States Navy as a Pharmacist's Mate First Class. He served for three years and finished his service on February 14, 1946. After finishing his time serving in the Navy, Herschel came back to Tulsa, Oklahoma. He met the love of his life, Dorothy McKelvy and the two married on Christmas Eve 1946.
During their marriage, Herschel attended the University of Tulsa and received a bachelor's degree in Business and Accounting. After college, Herschel began a career in the concrete industry. During his career he worked for Tulsa Ready Mix Concrete and Concrete Specialties of Tulsa.
After Herschel retired form Concrete Specialties as a business accountant, he spent the next two decades devoting himself to serving others. Those who knew Herschel knew he was a servant leader. He was a member of the Oklahoma Baptist Builders and the Oklahoma Disaster Relief team. He and his wife traveled all over the United States, Guatemala, Mexico City, Scotland, and St. Croix to help build churches on short term mission projects. Herschel helped serve with the Good Samaritan Church Van to help families that needed health care services.
Herschel and his wife Dorothy have been faithful members of Memorial Baptist Church since 1959. He and his wife taught children's Sunday School for almost 50 years. Herschel served as a deacon in the church and always enjoyed sharing his passion for serving others. The Christian values that he displayed have been carried through to his children and grandchildren.
Herschel was loyal to his family. He was an amazing husband and father. He loved being a part of his children's or grandchildren's extracurricular activities. He never missed a basketball game, band concert or a soccer game. He was always the grandchildren's biggest cheerleader.
In the recent years you could find Herschel enjoying some of his favorite sport teams which included OU Sooners, Dallas Cowboys and OKC Thunder. Herschel often found comfort in being outside playing in the backyard with his favorite dogs. Herschel found delight in cooking and experimenting with new foods.
Herschel is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Dorothy Geddie.
His daughter and son-in-law Jim and Elaine Bates. His daughter-in-law Dee Dee Geddie.
His grandchildren: Laura Scott and her husband French Scott, Susan Bates, Michael Geddie and his wife Stephanie Geddie, Stephanie and her fiancee Blake German.
His great grandchildren: MacKenzie Scott, Malcolm Scott, Caleb Geddie and Lucas Geddie.
He was preceded in death by his son Steve Geddie.
Celebration of Life Service for Herschel Geddie will be held on Thursday, December 6th at 1:00 pm at Memorial Baptist Church at 2800 S. Yale Ave. Tulsa, Ok. 74114.
