Hershel L. Dyer, 92, of Tulsa, OK passed from this life on Saturday, June 23, 2018, after a brief illness. Hershel was born September 27, 1925 in Crosbyton, Texas to Carroll Luther and Lola Pearl Dyer. Hershel's family was an active part of the church in their Texas hometown. When he was in high school he was encouraged by the local preacher go into the ministry. After receiving his bachelor's degree from Abilene Christian College, he ministered in Lubbock, TX for several years. While in Lubbock, he met and married Charline Boyett of Sweetwater, TX. They soon moved to a small mission congregation in Lincoln, NE. Among of the major accomplishments during that time was helping the Lincoln church become a self-supporting congregation and paying off the debt on its property. He was also one of the founders and board members of York College, of York, NE.
In 1957, Hershel moved to Tulsa, OK with his wife, Charline, and, their two children, Elizabeth, and Russell. A third child, Becky, was born after the move... Hershel was very proud that all of his children are active Christians. In 2001, Hershel retired after 44 years as minister of the 10th and Rockford Church of Christ. Following his retirement, he was still very active in church activities, and was a guest preacher at several congregations in the area.
Through the years, Hershel saw many changes in the community around the church building, but continued to believe in the opportunity to spread the gospel.
He was preceded in death, by his wife, Charline, in 2001.
He is survived by his three children, their spouses eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Hershel will be greatly missed in the days ahead and we were privileged to have him in our lives.
Viewing will be on Tuesday at Moore's Rosewood Chapel from 1:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 10:30 AM 10th and Rockford Church of Christ.
