Obituary

Hershell Ray Sinnett was born November 2, 1947 in Needles, California. He was the second of 3 sons born to Freddie Jr. and Myrtle Virginia (Adams) Sinnett. He was raised in the Oklahoma City area where he and his brothers attended school. Hershell was known to be a fiery redhead from a young age. His brother Randy recalls a time when Hershell was a young man, probably no more than 6 years old and attempted to kick a grown man in the shin who commented on his red hair. He was ambidextrous and could hit, throw or write with both hands. He was also excellent at riding his bicycle backwards as a child.

After high school he and a cousin moved to Tulsa where he worked with another fiery redhead, his soon to be bride, Sandi. One afternoon after work Hershell was taking a coworker home in his white 63.5 Galaxy 500XL. He left the car running while he ran back into the building and while he was in the building, Sandi jumped in the driver's seat and took off in the car. When she returned after going around the block, he stood outside with his hands on his hips and immediately asked her out on a date. They dated approximately 2 months and the rest was history. They were married 57 years this last March. Together they raised 4 children.

Hershell was known to be a meticulous cleaner. He was known to carry a little corn broom in his truck and brushed it out daily. His children recall his habit of vacuuming and always rearranging their shoes, which they had trouble locating the next day. His grandchildren recall him always having chewing gum in his pocket and his love of popcorn. He had an eye for beautiful knives and had an expansive knife collection.

He held various jobs over the years and ultimately retired after 17 years from Tulsa County in 2014.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved doing so with his sons and grandkids. In 2022 he got his trophy, a 16 point buck which was a dream come true for him. The mount hung in the Backwood's Hunting and Fishing Show in OKC that year.

He was a proud grandpa of 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was extremely proud of the fact that he had namesakes to carry on his middle name, his son, Timothy Ray, his grandson Mason Ray, his great granddaughter Raylee Marie and his great grandson Jaxen Ray.

Hershell is preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Dean Sinnett, his son in law, Chester Sims and his grandson, Joshua Richardson.

He is survived by his wife Tommie (Sandi) Sinnett of the home, his children; Kevin Sinnett & wife Tiffany of Clearview, OK, Tim & wife Jennifer of Liberty Mounds, OK, Frank & partner Tammy Glenn of Henryetta, OK and his daughter Angela Sims of Broken Arrow; brother Randy Sinnett & wife Nancy of Mustang, OK; his grandchildren; Thomas, Tyler, Wade, Mason, Alexandra, Livia, Elizabeth, Spencer, Lauren, Stacey, Amanda, Rikki and Austin as well as his 21 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time which the family will announce.
