Hilde Beck, 92, passed away in her sleep on June 23, 2024. She was born on August 7, 1931, in Schidski-Banovci, Yugoslavia to Karl and Maria Harfmann. Her early life took her from their farm, through war-torn lands, and eventually brought her family to Austria. She later became a nanny for two daughters of an American Colonel; she taught them German and they taught her English.. It was during this time she met her husband-to-be, Frank Beck. They married in 1958 and came to America.

Having missed attending school during the war years, she was proud of attaining her GED. In 1963 she became a naturalized citizen of America. Her motto was, "If I can serve someone today, my life is not lived vain." She excelled in befriending people, always looking for ways to encourage and help them. Hilde made clothes, knitted blankets, cleaned homes, visited the sick, prepared meals, was a foster parent, babysitter, and so much more, driven by her desire to serve. When she could no longer do these things, she colored pictures with scriptures to give to others. Even in her later years, she remembered the names and stories of her friends.

For her, nothing compared to believing in Jesus - the author and perfector of her faith. He had brought her through war to safety and purpose.

Hilde is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Frank, her sister Elizabeth, and her brother Erick. She is survived by her sons, Larry (wife Kendra) and David; granddaughter Stephanie (husband Tim); grandsons Jonathan (wife Laura, great-grandson William, great-granddaughter Madelyn), Brian, and Daniel (wife Halee, great-granddaughter Evie); brothers Siegfried and Robert, and many nieces and nephews.
