Howard Ingram, a long time resident of Tulsa, died Friday, April 13th. Born in 1923, in Altamont, KS, to John and Mary Ingram, Howard was the fourth of nine children, and a 1942 graduate of Labette County Community High School.
He started his career as a manufacturing engineer at Boeing in 1942 in Wichita, KS, able to start out in engineering immediately as a result of the excellent education he received at Labette County Community High School.
He moved to Tulsa in 1955 to start working for Southern Specialties, followed by Trimble Manufacturing, McElroy Manufacturing, and Facet Enterprises, as his reputation as a reliable employee and excellent engineer and machinist preceded him.
Howard supported his daughters in many extracurricular activities, including Campfire Girls, chaperoning for drill team, and Blackbirds. He was active in coaching Little League and organized Tulsa girls' softball. In the early '70s, before Tulsa supported girls' high school softball, Howard promised to bring Tulsa teams to Broken Arrow to help develop their high school softball program, and was successful in doing so.
Howard shared his love of adventure with his family, exploring the United States together. He loved fishing and the game of baseball, and enthusiastically influenced most of his family to do the same. Howard enjoyed being with family, and sharing stories from throughout his life. Many summer afternoons were spent with friends and family, fishing and cruising Grand Lake on a pontoon boat.
He is survived by three daughters: Connie Duncan (John) of Ault, CO; Cheryl Griffith (Doug) of Sugar Land, TX; and Crystal Phillips (John) of Arlington, VA; brother Raymond Ingram, of Kansas; sisters Darlene Cornett of Florida and Gladys Henderson of Arizona; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister, and one granddaughter.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. John's ER and ICU and Park's Edge Rehabilitation Facility, for all their care and support in this transition.
