Mr. Harlan Hugh Harrington (Hugh) died peacefully at St. Francis Hospital on June 29, 2015 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 89.
Hugh was born on December 17, 1925 in Arapahoe, Nebraska to Harlan and Hazel Harrington. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy in 1944, serving until 1946. He married his sweetheart, (Joyce) Darlene Graf, on August 28, 1949 and graduated from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 1951 with a degree in Civil Engineering. After moving with Darlene to Houston, Texas, Hugh began working for Standard Oil and Gas and eventually moved to Tulsa, OK, where he worked for Amoco Research for 35 years, retiring in 1986. During their marriage, Hugh and Darlene welcomed four children into their home: Janet, Beth, Robert, and Steve. His children remember him as a kind and patient father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Hugh was a member of Southern Hills United Methodist Church, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was active in the Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, and his church. After retiring, he volunteered with the American Cancer Society.
Hugh is preceded in death by his parents, Harlan and Hazel (Muckel) Harrington of Riverton,
Nebraska, and grandson Shawn Leland. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Darlene (Graf) Harrington; children Janet Leland and Doug Kimbrell; Beth and Dan McKay; Robert and Becky Harrington; and Steve Harrington and Jennifer Polle. He is also survived by grandchildren Dawn and Shane Ellis; Crystal and Bobby Olsen; Delania and Billy Hammack; Mikell Fulton; James Fulton; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 3, 2015 at Southern Hills United Methodist
Church, 6160 S Lewis Ave, with a reception to follow. Pastor Tom McElroy will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Hugh's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of your choice. Moore's Rosewood Chapel
