Hugh Edward Turner was born on January 24, 1920 in Treece Kansas to John Preston and Edith Leanna (Pearson) Turner. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 1, 2016 at the age of 95 years, 11 months, and 8 days at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa Oklahoma.
Hugh was married to Minnelva Skinner for almost 58 years and she preceded him in death in May 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents, John and Edith Turner, and one brother, John Junior Turner. He is survived by two daughters, Nola Gatton of Altamont Kansas and husband Bob, and Phyllis Turner of Tulsa Oklahoma, one sister Ramona Murray of Spring Texas, 4 grandchildren, Christina Hall, Tim Gatton, Brian Gatton, and John Gatton, 12 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom were special to him.
He was a current member of South Tulsa Baptist Church and had served faithfully for many years at Eastwood Baptist Church in Tulsa.
Hugh grew up in the Tri-State area of Northeast Oklahoma, Southeast Kansas, and Southwest Missouri. He graduated from High School in Picher Oklahoma in 1938. In October 1941 he was inducted into the United States Army and was eventually deployed to France and Germany with Battery C of the 689th Field Artillery Battalion in the European Theatre during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the service on October 31, 1945.
He graduated from Kansas State Teachers College (now Pittsburg State University) in 1951 with a degree in Business Administration/Accounting. He was an accountant with Cities Service Oil and Gas for 32 years before his retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed taking care of his yard, taking care of his wife, and doing what he could to help others.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 5 from noon until 8:00 PM at Moore's Southlawn and Services will be January 6, 2016 in the Chapel at South Tulsa Baptist Church with Philip Stephens officiating. Interment will be that in Greenlawn Cemetery in Kansas. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
