Buddy Edwards, born Ira Leonard Edwards Jr. on January 5, 1949, died December 23, 2024 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Teresa Bohannan Edwards, their three children Danny Edwards and his wife Amanda Edwards, Keith Edwards, Julie Edwards Kommer and her husband Frank Kommer; his sister Donna Edwards Powell, and his mother-in-law Mable Bohannan of Owasso, as well as two step grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents Mahdeen and Ira of Tulsa, and his siblings Laverle Graefe, Joan Nevalo and Douglas Edwards.
Buddy was a Tulsa litigation attorney for over 40 years, an avid golfer and a great friend and dad.
A Tulsa native, Buddy graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1967. He went on to serve in Vietnam with the US Marine Corps, and was awarded the Purple Heart for his courageous service. After returning stateside, Buddy attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, where in Freshman English class he reconnected with Teresa Bohannan, an acquaintance from his high school days. The two married in 1970 and relocated to Edmond, where they both graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma. Buddy went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma Law School in Norman.
Buddy had a prosperous 40+ year law career, spending his last 15+ years with Riggs Abney Neil and Turpin in Tulsa. He also practiced law with Pray Walker, Jones (Givens) Gotcher. While not fighting legal battles you could find Buddy spending time with his wife, hanging out with his 3 children, or spending time at the family home on Grand lake. Buddy was a competitive golfer and devoted much time to the sport. He hit a hole in one at his favorite course, Southern Hills, where he was a member for several years.
Buddy was a great friend and had a generous spirit. He loved big, and was the ideal person to have with you in a fox hole, as he would say. The family would like to thank the staff of Iris Memory Care and Good Shepherd Hospice for their compassionate care of Buddy over the past year.
A Celebration of his Life will be held January 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church.
