Ireta Ann Tarwater.
Born June 7, 1930 in Pawhuska, OK to her parents Ercell and Jenny Cook. She graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1949. She attended St. John School of Nursing and graduated in 1952.
Ireta married Roy H. Smith in 1953 and they had 3 children: Deborah (John) Johnson, Steve (Tammy) Smith and David Smith.
In 1975, she married the late Robert Tarwater and became a stepmother to Larry (Julie) Tarwater, Kent Tarwater and Robin (Michael) Hahn. She and Bob were active members of the Tulsa Opera Guild, Iron Gate and the Tulsa Boys Home. Past President of the Tulsa Mrs. Club, Cotillion Club and Beta Sigma Phi.
Ireta had eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Michael) Haynes, Julia (Brandon) Evans, Eric Johnson, Audrey Smith, Andrew Little, Brandon Smith, Charlie Tarwater and Andy Tarwater. She also had 5 great-grandchildren, Madilyn Haynes, Victoria Evans, Alexander Evans, Katelyn Haynes and Elyse Mullins.
Ireta recently has enjoyed the friendship of Joe Wilkerson. He brought happiness and joy to her final days.
Ireta died December 14, 2015. A brief graveside service at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Iron Gate Foundation.
