After high school Jack enlisted into the U.S Navy. He achieved the grade of Boatswains Mate (BM 2) during the Vietnam War and served on both the USS John Hancock and the USS Coral Sea Air Craft Carriers and also served as a Brown Water River Rat. He earned a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts before he was honorably discharged in 1970. After the service Jack earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University and began his career with The John Hancock Companies where he worked his way up to District Manager in Memphis, Tennessee. After his first retirement, Jack worked as a plant manager for Fiber Pad, Inc. in Tulsa. And after his second retirement Jack helped everyone with handyman/contractor work.
Jack married Julie (Massa) August 27, 1983 and they moved to Tulsa in 1985. Jack was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church, and served as moderator of the Board of Trustees for many years. Jack was an avid gardener. In 2010, Jack established the John Knox Presbyterian Church Community Garden benefiting "Neighbors Along the Line. " Everyone waited eagerly for the bounty of Jack's Vegetable Garden. In addition to gardening, Jack enjoyed hunting (Quail, Deer, Turkey) & fishing. Jack also loved to golf and will be missed by his regular golfing buddies.
Jacks talents led him into the world of art. Self-taught, he fearlessly took on painting in both water color and acrylic mediums. Sculpting and wood carving were his more recent endeavors. Friends say they are lucky to have pieces of his work to enjoy.
