It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Wayne Pontious. Jack was born August 20, 1936 in Oklahoma City, OK to Euel 'Buddy' Pontious and Lenior Pontious Bruemmer and passed from this life on October 4, 2024, at the age of 88.
Jack gained recognition playing basketball at Will Rogers High School and The University of Tulsa. He earned a Bachelors in Education and later a Masters in School Administration. While attending Will Rogers, he was introduced to the love of his life, Mollie. They wed in 1958, celebrating 66 years together last April. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was a long-time member and elder emeritus of Yale Avenue Christian Church.
In 1995, Jack retired from Tulsa Public Schools after 35 years. While working, his career progressed from Social Studies Teacher to Junior High Assistant Principal, then Principal and finally Human Resources Director. During this time, he was also very active with the Tulsa Teachers Credit Union, eventually serving as a board member from 1987 to 2021. Upon retiring from the board, he was honored by having the board room named the Jack Pontious board room.
Jack enjoyed golf and bowling with his family. He became an advocate for organ transplant after his son, Gary, received a heart transplant in 1994. Jack and Mollie traveled with Gary and his wife, Holly, to transplant recipient athletic events in the US and worldwide, promoting organ transplants.
He is survived by his wife, Mollie, his daughter Kristy of Broken Arrow, OK and his daughter Debra of Anna, TX, daughter in-law Holly of North Little Rock, AR; grandchildren: Sara (Rance) and Savannah; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Gabriel, Kade and a large extended family. He was proceeded in death by his parents, stepfather Kenneth Bruemmer and his son Gary.
Visitation Monday, October 7th, 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home - Southlawn Chapel 9350 East 51st St. Tulsa. Services will be held at Yale Avenue Christian Church, Tuesday, October 8th, at 10:00 a.m.
