Obituary

Jack Delmer Stone, 91, of Jenks, Oklahoma, was called home to the Lord on January 20, 2021. Born in Shamrock, Oklahoma on June 14,1929, Jack was the 7th of 9 children. He grew up during the depression and learned the value of hard work from his father, a pumper with the Gypsy Oil Company. He graduated from Bristow High School in 1947 and entered the United States Army in 1951, achieving the rank of corporal and earning two service medals while serving with the 382nd General Hospital in Kanaoka, Japan. He said seeing Mount Fuji was a most memorable sight.

Jack had three sons by his first wife, Valencia Bell. Jack Jr, Kirk, and Erik. He gained a stepson, Alan Denney, and two stepdaughters, Debbi Denney Spellman, and Denise Denney Notley, upon his marriage to Wanda Denney, the love of his life! Wanda loved that her daughters and daughter-in law would often spoil Jack and dote on him, and Jack was delighted and proud to walk step daughter Denise down the aisle at her wedding.

Everyone who knew Jack will recall that he loved to sing and whistle, and jingle whatever was in his pocket, as he went about his day. He always had a song on his lips, usually a hymn of praise sung in his clear, tenor voice. "Comfort Ye My People" from Handel's "Messiah" was his favorite and he sang it beautifully. Jack was well loved by the family, and after the news of Jack's passing, some of his nieces and nephews recounted that he had become like a second dad to them after the passing of their father when they were teens. He would often drop by to help around the house and share a meal.

Jack taught the grandkids how to swim when they were young, and how to mount a set of tires when they were older. They didn't understand yet that it was work they were doing. They thought it was fun! Jack knew better.

Jack and Wanda liked to travel, often visiting the kids in Wyoming, Colorado, and Texas, taking their Oklahoma grandchildren with them. That takes real bravery! They also traveled to many conventions around the country with friends within the tire dealer's community. Los Angeles, New Orleans, Orlando, Dallas...No place was safe!

Professionally, Jack and Wanda owned Tulsa Tire Specialists and he was known for his kindness in helping people out of a jam when their cars needed work. Sometimes at no charge! Sometimes lending their personal vehicles! But they built a strong following of loyal customers. After 23 years, Jack and Wanda retired to their home in Jenks, Oklahoma, and they enjoyed quiet mornings and evenings on their backyard screened porch together, watching the birds, growing a small garden, always planting pots and pots of flowers. They both remained active in church and Bible study. That's where you'll find some of their best friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Delmer 0. and Infanta (Inta) Thompson Stone, brothers Edgar, Edwin, and David Stone, sisters Ivonne (Stone) Moore, Flonnie, (Stone) Miller, and Lillian (Stone) Bell Qualls. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Wanda Denney Stone, sister Helen (Stone) Johnson, brother Henry Stone, sons Jack Jr, Kirk and Erik Stone and stepson Alan Denney, and stepdaughters Denise (Denney) Notley, and Debbi (Denney) Spellman. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and an unknown number (smile) of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
