Obituary

Jacqueline Northrup, age 90, of Tulsa, passed away Friday, October 23, 2020, from effects of the Covid-19 virus. She was born June 25, 1930 in Springfield, Illinois to parents Rudolph and Mae Howard and was raised in Decatur, IL. She attended Milliken University in Decatur and graduated with an R. N. degree from Washington University, St Louis, in 1953. There she met and married Dr. Robert Northrup and moved to Tulsa with him where they raised two children. In 1970, she began a career with Tulsa Public School as a school nurse and in1980, attained a degree as school nurse practitioner from the University of Health Sciences Center in Denver. She helped develop a program at TPS for the supervision of school health clerks and for this was awarded Oklahoma School Nurse of the Year, 1987-88. She was very focused on helping disadvantaged school children, especially in north Tulsa, receive pediatric care and treatment. In addition, she worked as a volunteer instructor at Red Cross and as a part-time employee, evenings at Tulsa Junior College.

She was very active in the Lutheran church in Tulsa, at Christ the Redeemer, Our Savior and Good Shepherd. She served as school teacher, school superintendent, on the organ committee, on altar guild and sang in the choir. Her many interests included cats, reading mystery novel cosies (with cats!), counted cross stitch needlework, crafts, classical music (playing piano, organ and harpsichord) and raising flowers (African violets, iris, daylilies). She was a friendly, nice, polite, independent, practical and intelligent woman with a sense of humor.

Jacqueline was predeceased in death by her husband, Robert and daughter, Judith. She is survived by her son, Curtis, of Tulsa.

A memorial service for her will be delayed, due to the pandemic.
