Obituary

Jacqueline Virginia Whitehurst, or Jackie, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 10:00 am on April 17th, 2025 in her room at Trinity Woods Assisted Living Residence. Jacqueline was born on June 23, 1941, to Blannie Boyce of Norfolk, VA. Jackie was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her brothers: HB, Albert, and Ernie. She leaves behind her cousin, Audrey King. She also leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law: Amber and Dale Forrest and their son, Andrew Forrest. She leaves behind her son Steven Whitehurst and his children: Jeremiah, Lauren Mitcham, and Charles Whitehurst. She also leaves behind her youngest son, Daniel Whitehurst and wife Brittany and their children: Brian, Alyssa, and Jacob Whitehurst.

She graduated from High School in 1959 and started college at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, where she met and fell in love with Gene Whitehurst. They were married in August 1960. So, Jackie did not finish college, but Gene did.

Jackie became a housewife and a homemaker and she was excellent at it. She cooked great meals, kept the house, drove children where they needed to go, kept the children in shoes and clothes that fit, and was very supportive of Gene. Even after the divorce, she still promoted him and encouraged the children to have a relationship with their dad by calling him, or spending time with him.

Jackie loved the Lord and made sure that her children were at church every time the congregation met. She helped to foster a love for Christ in her children. She encouraged them to go to other church functions, such as Arkansas Youth Camp, and the church Teen Class. These consistent reinforcements of a Christian walk really helped put her children on the right path.

Jackie loved to laugh and have a great time with friends and family. She always used to say "it's either laugh or cry". So, she would try and make the best of whatever life threw at her.

Whenever Jackie spoke about funerals and death with her children, she made sure they knew that at her service, she wanted to make sure the gospel message was made clear for all in attendance. John 3:16 says: 16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His [a]only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. Ephesians 2:8-9 says: 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and [a]that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Salvation is a gift for anyone who will accept it. It requires faith alone in Christ alone.

In John 14:6, Jesus says: Jesus *said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

The bad news is that ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. What's worse is that we can't work hard enough or be good enough to overcome the chasm between us and God. But the good news is that Jesus paid the price for mankind. He made a way for us to have access to God and to live with Him forever in paradise by dying on the cross for our sins and being risen on the third day after he died.

And Jackie wanted to be sure that everyone who knew her and cared about her would know how to get to heaven, by putting faith in Jesus Christ. It's the most important decision we will ever make, because it affects our lives until we die and determines if we go to heaven or hell after we die. Jackie believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior when she was nine years old and she is in heaven right now! She wants the same thing for you, right now!
