Obituary

James R. ("Bob") Schooley departed this life on February 5, 2024, at the age of 95.

Bob was born in Springfield, Missouri on July 24, 1928. At an early age he assisted his parents with their grocery and feed store, delivering groceries to customers on bicycle. He enjoyed playing baseball and was an avid Cardinals fan. Bob was active in various musical organizations. He excelled on the clarinet which led to him being placed in the Military Band during his service in the Army National Guard of the U.S. and Missouri. His music career included sharing the stage to sing a number with Marie Osmond. He also served in the Reserves of the Army and Marine Corps. Bob enjoyed the outdoors and earned the Eagle Scout honor. One of his favorite jobs was as a deputy park ranger in Montana.

After attending the University of Missouri and Drury College, Bob married Margaret ("Maggie") Schooley in 1951. They moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and became active members of the Boston Ave. Methodist Church. Bob began working for Affiliated Foods, where he became the Controller. He loved cars and when he retired he continued working at Dynabug Automotive where he was a co-owner.

Bob and Maggie enjoyed square dancing, dune buggies, and traveling all over the U.S., Scandinavia, Egypt, and South and Central America. Bob's favorite trip was to Peru where he hiked the Inca trail to Machu Picchu and stayed in a hut in the Amazon jungle. He took his son Steve on a 50 mile hike in the Kiamichi Mountains when Steve was in Boy Scouts. Bob was also an avid runner and enjoyed coaching his son's baseball and daughter's softball teams. Bob was an impressive ice skater and shared that skill with his family. Soon the whole family was skating in ice shows in costumes designed and sewn by Maggie. He liked taking the family water skiing on Lake Tenkiller. Bob and Maggie were happily married for 66 years until Maggie passed away in 2017. Bob stayed fit and was even walking 3 miles a day into his 90's. Bob was kind to everyone and treated everyone with respect. Bob will be remembered for his humor, intelligence, exceptional math skills, and for being a hard worker and always ready to lend a helping hand.

Bob is survived by his sister Louise Harding of Springfield, Missouri, son Steven and his wife Teresa Schooley of Broken Arrow, daughter Teresa and her husband Roger Reinmuller of Slidell, Louisiana, and daughter Sharon Schooley of Tulsa. He is survived by grandchildren Joseph Reinmuller (Kristina) and Daniel Reinmuller (Amy), and great-grandchildren Makenzie, Juliette, Charlotte, and Jonah.
