James Maurice Brown, age 87, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on January 15, 2023. "Jim" was born on August 30, 1935, in Cushing, OK, to M.Y. and Pearl Brown. Graduating from OU in 1958 with a degree in pharmacy, he then wed the love of his life, Karen Jeanne Harvey, and they made their home in Tulsa. In 1963, Freeland-Brown pharmacy was founded, where he went the extra mile to patiently help his customers for 48 years. He served in the Air National Guard, and was on active duty during the Cuban missile crisis. An active member of John Knox Presbyterian Church for 64 years, he enjoyed serving on disaster relief trips and as a pharmacist on Methodist mission trips. He was a member of the Brookside Lions Club and loved selling Christmas trees as their annual fundraiser. He also enjoyed Bible Study Fellowship.
As a faithful and loving husband and father/grandfather/great-grandfather, he treasured playing games and made sure his grandchildren knew how to play Skip-Bo and poker.
Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Karen; son Mark (Kathleen); daughter April (Shannon); son Scott (Caryn); Norwegian "daughter" Tone; Swedish "son" Joe; 12 grandchildren (and more that call him Grandpa), 4 great-grandchildren and a large extended family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to John Knox Presbyterian Church or Neighbors Along the Line.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 28, at John Knox Presbyterian Church.
Special thanks to loving caregivers Edith, Frida, Noi, Courtney, and Cura Hospice.
