On Monday, March 2, 2026, James Ernest Coover passed away. He was born on August 27, 1930, in Capron, Oklahoma to Rev. J. Cecil Coover and Fern Elva Demaree Coover. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as two brothers and five sisters.
He attended Britton High School in Oklahoma City graduating in 1949. He graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Oklahoma City University in 1957.
Jim Coover served in the Naval and Air Force Reserves with honorable discharge in 1953 and 1957 respectively.
Jim worked for Southwestern Bell then AT&T his entire career. He began as a Lineman with Southwestern Bell then promoted to a Professional Engineer with AT&T. He retired from AT&T in 1986. After retirement he worked as a consultant for Ericsson's Communications, allowing he and LaRue to travel through many states for several years while working.
Jim was raised in the Methodist church. Throughout his life, he contributed his knowledge and experience to a wide range of boards, organizations, and committees.
Jim enjoyed camping and water skiing. Jim loved traveling and took many trips with LaRue throughout Europe, Israel, Canada, and many states in the USA.
Jim married LaRue A Ford on December 10, 1949. They were married for 73 1/2. She preceded him in death.
Jim is survived by his three daughters: Donna Swords, Patti Griffin, and Jan Gregston (with her husband Mark). He is also survived by six grandchildren: Michael Griffin (with wife Aimee), Tommy Griffin (with wife Erica), Melissa Nelson (with husband, Blake), Adam Gregston (with wife Nicole), Johnny Swords, and Jared Swords. His family includes nine great-grandchildren: Micah Morgan (with husband Clint), Alex Trompler (with partner Samantha Laster), Sara Johnson (with husband Austin), Maile Loyd (with husband Easton), Eli Griffin (with fiancée Tatum Kersey), Macie Nelson, Kasey Griffin (preceded in death), Chase Gregston, and Carter Gregston. Three great-great-grandchildren-Roman Morgan, Elsie Morgan, and Miley Johnson-survive him, with a fourth, Mia, expected soon. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
