Obituary

James Leon Gibbs Sr. was born in Caddo, OK on November 21st, 1946 to parents Jerry Lee and Marie Jack Gibbs. James passed from this life surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, May 25th, 2022 in Tulsa, OK.

James attended and graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1965. In 1968 he joined the US Army and proudly served our country. During James' time in the military, he earned the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. James was honorably discharged from the Army in 1970. After serving in the military, James went on to serve the Tulsa community as a firefighter with the Tulsa Fire Department. James had a long career as a firefighter and retired from the Tulsa Fire Department.

James was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and anything else that involved playing in nature. He was also a Corvette enthusiast who loved rebuilding the cars and had rebuilt several over the years. James was also a loving family man, who loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. James loved caring for others, and was known to always be there if someone needed help. He was an honest and forthright man who always let you know where you stood with him.

James was preceded in death by: his parents, Marie and Jerry Gibbs; 2 sisters; 4 brothers; and a set of twin baby boys.

James is survived by his children: James Leon Gibbs Jr. of Tulsa; Jamie LaQuita Galovich and husband Anthony of Sacramento, CA, Jerri Lynn Campbell and husband Cody of Owasso, OK, Jyme Leigh Walker and husband Jimmy of Owasso, OK, James Leon Gibbs II and wife Krystal of Owasso, OK, Jennia Marie Gibbs of Tulsa, OK; 22 grandchildren; great grandchildren; siblings Mary Gibbs, Marvienna Gibbs-Grayson, Marsha Gibbs-Baccus, Margaret Gibbs and Andrew Gibbs; longtime partner Tammy Harjo; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 2nd from 12-8PM at Moore Southlawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 3rd at 10AM at Moore Southlawn Funeral Home, 9350 E 51st St, Tulsa, OK 74145.
