Obituary

James Paul Hammons (84) was called home to be with the Lord on March 10th, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by family. Paul was born on September 13th, 1941, to James Marvin and Opal Charlene Hammons. After graduating high school in Rogers, Arkansas in 1958, he served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Duxbury Bay from 1959 to 1962. He married the love of his life "Baby Ruth", "Linda", Johnye Ruth Bearpaw (he gave her many nicknames throughout the years). They were married for 60 glorious years. From that union, two daughters were born, Leslie and Jayme. He retired from Boeing Aerospace in 1994.

Paul was a mighty man of God. He was always eager to help those in need and taught Sunday school for 30+ years. Whether he was helping the neighbors or church with their yardwork or taking veggies from his garden to the elders and neighbors, he always put others before himself. He had a passion for gardening and had the biggest, prettiest garden in the neighborhood. People were always stopping by to admire it. One of his favorite things to do was sit out back on his deck, drink his tea, and be with nature. On his annual trip with his wife "Ruthie", he made it a point to stop by his favorite place, The Grand Tetons, to admire God's beauty.

Paul was meticulous in his work, striving to complete any job the "right way," including building the home he and his wife "shug" lived in the past forty years. Paul's "hard worker" mentality lives on through his children and has created a truly meaningful legacy in his family. He will be missed by all that knew him, as he was "one of the good ones".

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Johnye Ruth Hammons of Tulsa. Two daughters, Leslie Acton and her husband Carles of Broken Arrow, and Jayme Kilpatrick of Broken Arrow. One brother, Clifford Hammons of Big Cabin. "Papa" is also survived by six grandchildren: Chelsea Easton and husband Taylor, Madalyn Acton, Paiton Acton, Cayden Kilpatrick, Carson Acton, and Caitlyn Kilpatrick. Two great-grandchildren Landon and Ellie Easton, numerous nieces and nephews and many other loved family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents James Marvin Hammons and Opal Charlene Hammons. Brother, Johnny Hammons. Sister-in-law, Sondra Hammons.
