James Richard Jewell (Dick) passed away on June 5, 2014 at St. John's hospital in Tulsa, OK. A memorial service is being planned for a future date. He was born in St .Louis, Missouri, July 30, 1940 to Frances Jewell. Dick attended Alton Senior High School in Alton, Illinois where he graduated in 1958. He entered the Air Force November 30, 1962, where he received numerous awards and medals. He began his career at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma and became a skilled welder and machinist. He was honorably discharged after five years of service in St. Petersburg, Florida. He then went to work for the St. Petersburg Police Department and served for 25 years. Following his retirement from the police force he worked 17 years for the Florida State Lottery and retired in 2005. Dick loved his church, golf, and working on John Deere tractors. In 2005, he married Nancy Pelot from Alton, IL. They later moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas where they made their home. He is survived by his wife Nancy, a sister Peggy Spears from Alton, IL, 7 step-children, 8 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and two sisters. The family has designated memorial contributions be sent to the Presbyterian Church, Bella Vista, Arkansas, the American Cancer Society , or the American Lung Society.
