Obituary

James "Jim" Marshall Magee, passed away peacefully at Porta Caeli in Tulsa on
November 1, 2022 after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. He was eighty-one years young and surrounded by family who love him. He is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Dr. Mary Magee, children Shea Magee (OKC), Kellie (Brian) Banta (Olathe, KS), Michael Stone (San Antonio), and Elizabeth (Geoff) Goolsbay (Tulsa), grandchildren Makenzie Brown (Kansas City), Kit Walters (Chicago), Brenton Stone (San Antonio), Ryan (Alyssa Dunne) Reynolds (Denver), Trey (Miranda) Goolsbay (Tulsa), and Jessie (Sam) Carr (Tulsa).

James was born June 26, 1941 to Wallace Delbert and Ivy Bell (Fields) Magee when they were in their forties (surprise!) and had one brother (Fieldon) who was serving in the Navy during WWII. The Magee's lived in Abernathy, TX where James played baseball, built go-carts, and earned Scout badges. A family move took him to Amarillo for high school where he made lifelong friends and enjoyed being a summer cowboy on a relative's ranch. Being color blind squelched his dream of becoming a pilot, but he persevered spending most of his professional life in the aviation industry, working at Rockwell, Nordam, Duke, and the company he ultimately owned, Airepair, International. James grew Airepair from a fledgling business with 2 employees to a successful 70-person aircraft parts repair facility that took him around the world. He viewed business trips up the Pacific Rim and throughout Europe, as opportunities to make friends, not business calls. James's love of life, people, travel and constant study of aviation created the perfect recipe for a life well lived.

Retirement had nothing to do with slowing down. He could finally travel the world as a
tourist with Mary (whom he always referred to as his bride). Much time was spent in
Crested Buttle, CO skiing, hiking, golfing, fishing, and volunteering. His Texas heritage
produced a Longhorn fan in the true fanatical sense of the word. He blatantly sported a
Longhorn on his SUV around Tulsa. The only thing James loved more than traveling,
golfing, and Texas football was spending time with his family and friends. Most
weekends found him attending a grandchild's activity or performance or hosting dinners
in their home that stretched long into the night with lots of laughter, wine, thought
provoking questions and discussion, and memorable stories (with NO cell phones!).

James and Mary are members of Harvard Avenue Christian Church where Jim served
with other members of their Challengers Sunday School class at Iron Gate.

The family wishes to thank Patti Mitchell, Elaine and the exceptional staffs at Miller Hospice and Porta Caeli who so lovingly cared for Jim and the family in his final days.

James' service will be held at Harvard Avenue Christian Church (HACC) on November 11 at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to HACC Endowment Fund (5502 Harvard Ave,
Tulsa, 74135) or Iron Gate (501 Archer St. Tulsa, 74103), which will fund missions dear to James' heart.
