Obituary

James M. "Jim" Clark, a lifelong resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was born on January 12, 1936, to Lawrence Clark and Ruth (Lang) Clark. He passed from this life, leaving behind a legacy of entrepreneurship, warmth, and a sense of adventure.

Jim graduated from Will Rogers High School, where he formed friendships that lasted throughout his life, and later attended the University of Tulsa. In 1959, he married Mary Nell Newsom, and raised three children.

Never one to shy away from opportunity, Jim pursued a variety of ventures over the years. He and Mary Nell first stepped into self-employment with two go-kart tracks, and Bert's Hamburger Stand before founding Clark Casket and Vault Company, which served Oklahoma funeral homes for more than 18 years. Jim's professional life also included work as a location manager in the film industry, as well as a Realtor and real estate appraiser serving both Tulsa and Creek Counties.

Known for his outgoing nature, Jim never met a stranger and was always ready to chase a new dream. His love for animals led the family to move to "the farm" in 1973, where they raised pigs, horses, dogs, cows, and even a monkey-creating countless memories along the way. Jim took an interest in public service as Oklahoma Land Commissioner and contributed his time to political campaigns for Governors Howard Edmondson and George Nigh, among many others.

Jim loved talking about the accomplishments of his children, and he found his greatest joy in large gatherings filled with laughter, stories, and the people he loved most.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ruth Clark, and his sister, Lou Ann Buck and husband Dr. Paul Buck. He is survived by his son, Scott Clark; his daughters, Jill Clark and her husband, Bob Murtaugh, and Kelly Fonkalsrud and her husband, Phil; his niece Dana Buck; his nephew Paul Buck and wife Edith, along with other nieces, cousins, many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

Jim's life was one of connection, curiosity, and time spent with others. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his adventurous heart, and the enduring love he shared with family and friends.

A celebration of life will be planned for late June. In lieu of flowers or cards, please consider donating to the Clark/Fonkalsrud Scholarship at Tulsa Community College.
