On January 7, 2016, God decided to throw a dance party in heaven for Jim Steinsiek with his awaiting family and friends. Known for his quick witted humor, he never met a stranger and was loved by everyone. He never wanted in life and maintained an independent lifestyle full of positivity and humor.
James R. Steinsiek (Jim) passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016. Jim was born on June 14, 1941 in Stilwell, OK to O. Reeves and Esther (Peters) Steinsiek. Following high school, he received an associate's degree.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary (Blechle) Steinsiek, of the home; daughter: Debbie Tyler of Tulsa, OK; son: Jim Steinsiek II of Sperry, OK; daughter: Cathy Scott and husband Kevin of Broken Arrow, OK; and daughter: Kieran Barrows of Tulsa, OK. He also has five granddaughters, one grandson, and three great-grandsons.
As an avid business man, Jim owned a barber shop for the majority of his life. Following a stint in San Francisco, CA, he served Tulsa and his lifelong customers and friends for nearly four decades. Jim was a master clock-smith always tinkering and collecting antique clocks.
Following retirement, Jim volunteered at the Philbrook Museum of Art before starting a second career as an employee. He was a strong supporter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) --volunteering at the annual Telethon, Harley Davidson rides, and Fill the Boot campaigns. Proud of his German heritage, Jim also looked forward to volunteering and attending events at the Tulsa German American Society.
Having always been creative, Jim became a talented stained-glass artist at the Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges (the Center). Over the years, his skills evolved into allowing him to teach others with limitations his artistry. He always looked forward to being able to support the Center at the annual holiday market selling his beautiful pieces, and attending other annual fund raising events.
Jim loved nothing more than spending time entertaining his family and friends, and watching OU Sooner football. Jim mastered the art of winning games and doing crossword puzzles.
A celebration honoring Jim's life will be held at Northside Christian Church (1221 North Elm Place, Broken Arrow, OK 74012) on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges (815 South Utica Ave., Attn: Lori Long, Tulsa, OK 74104 or
