Obituary

James "Jim" Ronald Maske was born June 12, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa to Lewis August Maske and Cora Miller Maske. He entered into Eternal Life on June 5, 2024, in Tulsa, Ok, just one week before his 88th birthday.

Jim was the second of four children. His large extended family spent many Sundays together after attending Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Summers were spent farming with his father and siblings. Jim always said, "Growing up in the '50s was the best of times that life could offer". His father taught him that "if you cannot do something right, don't do it at all".

His family settled in Downey, Iowa where he graduated from West Branch High School, Class of 1954. While attending the University of Iowa, Jim met nursing graduate, Florence "Flo" Sokolof. They were married in 1960; two beautiful daughters were born of this union, Sandra Faye and Wendy Susanne. Jim was very proud of his daughters and their many accomplishments. He loved to brag that they both received their master's degrees on the same day.

A job with Inter State Finance brought him to Tulsa in 1961. After a 30-year career in business management with Moore Business Forms, he retired in 1992. His "second" retirement came in 2002 from real estate sales. Through the years Jim was active in the Optimist Club, Temple Israel, SETHA, Tulsa Ski Club, Ducks Unlimited, Oxley Nature Center and Trinity Episcopal Men's Dinner Group. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church serving as usher and greeter. In 2003, he completed the Reading the Bible class taught by Father Irving Cutter.

Jim and Ann married in 1987 joining their special families. They were grandparents to eight grandchildren, attending their activities and all high school graduations.

Jim was an outdoorsman with many interests including traveling, fishing, hunting, and canning. In a Tulsa World article (2003), Ashley Parrish wrote, "This canner is serious about his prize-winning preserves, and everybody wants some". A few of his favorite trips included a five-day deep sea fishing adventure out of Homer, Alaska with Ann, Canada fishing trips with family and friends as well as hunting trips in Montana, Wyoming, and Oklahoma. The Maske Family Reunion 2015 was held on the grounds of the President Herbert Hoover Library in West Branch. Four generations were represented for a great day!

Jim was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He will always be remembered for his hard work ethic, strong moral values and adventuresome, fearless spirit!

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Florence, his older brothers Bill and Paul, and grandson, Jeff Martin. He is survived by his wife Ann, daughters Sandra Faye Maske Calvin (Steve) and Wendy Susanne Maske Cash (Cris); stepson Scott Calvin (Susie); and cherished grandchildren Danielle Susanne Martin, Trevor Joseph Calvin (Jillian), James Scollin Cash, Madeleine Ann Calvin Brown (Scott), Baylor Joseph Calvin, Cooper Daniel Cash and Carly Danielle Cash. Also surviving are his sister Marilyn, and sisters-in-law Rosemary and Joy.

A Memorial Service honoring his life will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, Tulsa, OK, on Saturday, June 8, at 3:00 PM.
Memorial donations can be made to St. John's Episcopal Church and Clarehouse (hospice house).
