Obituary

James Gray Sandberg, age 93 of Spring, TX passed from this life peacefully and entered eternal comfort surrounded by his family on June 1, 2026.

Jim, as he was known by family and friends was born on May 6, 1933 in Waterloo, IA where he grew up and attended school until his senior year when he and his family relocated to Tulsa, Ok. He attended Memorial High School, graduating in 1954.

Immediately following graduation, Jim was drafted into the United States Military where he served for two years in the U.S. Army's 504th Ordinance Company, 87th Ordinance Battalion, including a 13-month deployment to Nellingen, Germany before returning to the states and subsequent discharge in June,1956.

Upon ending his commitment to the U.S. Army in 1956, Jim enrolled and began attending classes at Oklahoma A&M, presently Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1959 with his Bachelor's degree in Business. It was while at Oklahoma State that he met the love of his life Sue Ann Terhune.

Jim and Sue Ann were married on August 1, 1959, in Vandalia, IL and remained faithful in their marriage for 67 years.

Immediately following graduation from college, Jim worked briefly with American Airlines before beginning his career in the oil and gas industry with Amerada Petroleum. During a downturn in the oil and gas industry in the late 80's, Jim made a career change pursuing his real estate appraiser's license. He concluded his professional career after 10 years with the Harris County Appraisal District as a commercial and residential appraiser.

Throughout his life, Jim willingly shared his time serving in leadership positions in the churches he attended and local community organizations, including board member for Boston Avenue United Methodist Church of Tulsa, committee member at Klein United Methodist Church, and a regular volunteer at Northwest Assistance Ministries of Houston. Jim was also a lifetime member of Oklahoma State University's Alumni Association remaining "loyal and true" until the end.
