Obituary

James Michael Schmidt (1938 - 2018)

James Michael Schmidt passed over to be with our Lord on Saturday, September 29, 2018. He was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on April 19, 1938 to the joy of his loving parents, Dorothy and Theodore Schmidt. He graduated from Jefferson City High School, and went on to obtain his BBA in Accounting from the University of Tulsa, where he was an active member of the Lambda Chi Fraternity.

Jim treasured his fellowship with Christ as demonstrated by his faithful service at First Baptist Church of Tulsa through most of his life. He will be remembered for his passionate commitment to the Fellowship of Deacons, his work in sustaining the Ministry to New Parents, his dedication to many missionary journeys (especially to Brazil), as well as his generosity to FBC and many other charitable organizations.

In Tulsa, he began his successful professional career at Arthur Andersen. He then continued his business pursuits becoming President and CEO of Florafax International while also participating as an active member of the Young Presidents Organization. He later served as Chairman of Equiflor Corporation in Miami where he helped create and develop the Rio Roses brand. One of his final ventures was acting as CEO of Experius Advertising Corporation, where he hoped to revolutionize the LED signage industry.

Jim loved being on the water, and spent some of the last few years of his life with his wife in Miami, Florida. While there he enjoyed boating, SCUBA diving, offshore powerboat racing, and mostly enjoying sunrises over the Atlantic Ocean. When not on water, he liked to spend his time researching genealogy, practicing photography, traveling with his wife, and appreciating fine works of art.

He was a loving husband to his wife of 50 years, Sophia Lou; a model father to his son Michael Schmidt and his wife Liz of Houston, as well as an adoring and proud grandfather to their children, Hannah and Caroline. At the same time, he was a strong and caring father to his daughter Alicia Tucker and her husband Mark from Warwickshire, England, and equally an adoring and proud grandfather the their children Harrison, Zabrina, Hilton, and Bijou. Jim is also survived by his younger sister Carol Richardville and her husband Chip of Shangri-La, OK.
