Obituary

James ?Dwight? Taylor, 76, of Tulsa, OK, died Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at his home in Tulsa. Born January 11, 1937 in Kansas City, MO, he was the son of Wilton E. Taylor and Mary Marshall Taylor. He graduated from Miami High School in 1955 and Northeastern State University. He attended Kansas State University and obtained an MBA degree.



Dwight was married to Claudine Thurman, also of Miami, OK, on January 11, 1958, on Dwight?s 21st birthday. They were married for 55 years. Dwight was a member of Sigma Tau Fraternity, the Internal Auditor?s Association, and upon retirement as auditor for Tulsa County began volunteering in the community by teaching AARP defensive driving courses. In high school, Dwight worked for the Miami News Record writing sports features. He was a long-time member of Woodland Acres Baptist Church. Dwight was an avid OU football fan and loved his Boston Red Sox. He was a loyal fan of both through good times and bad. Dwight and Claudine experienced many fun years at their place on Monkey Island on Grand Lake, enjoying many hours of fishing and boating there.



Dwight is survived by his wife, Claudine, a son, Brent and his wife Elaine, a daughter, Brenda and her husband Brian. His five grandchildren include Brett Zinck, Catherine Taylor, Sarah Taylor, and twins Bethany and Blake Zinck. Also surviving Dwight are his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Charlene and Joe McCormick, and cousins Jane Osborn and Jim Taylor.



A viewing is scheduled for Sunday, August 11th from 2:00-4:00PM at Moore?s Southlawn, 9350 E 51st St, Tulsa, OK. Burial will be on Monday, 11:00 AM, August 12th, at GAR Cemetery in Miami, OK. A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM, Tuesday, August 13th, at Woodland Acres Baptist Church, 5511 S. Harvard, Tulsa, OK 74135.



In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Woodland Acres Baptist Church or Library for the Blind, 300 NE 18th St., Oklahoma City, OK 73105.
