James E. Keeter, 74, of Sapulpa, Okla., passed away Tuesday, Febraury 19, 2019, at his home. He was born February 29, 1944 in Tulsa, Okla., to James and Bonnie Keeter. He graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1962, and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts from Northeastern State University in 1969. James started his career in criminal justice as a Tulsa County Sheriffs Officer and then became a U.S. Probation Officer in Tulsa, Okla., and eventually transferred to New York City to continue his work, and retired there in 1996.
James devoted his life to helping others, be it through his work, or through his passion for sports. Being an excellent baseball player himself, James spent the majority of his free time coaching others. He coached football, baseball, wrestling, and softball for over 30 years, and helped many of his players excel and go on to receive college scholarships. If he wasn't at work, you could find him at the field.
James married the former Linda Susan Keeter, who predeceased him in March, 2013. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Keeter was preceded in death by his daughter, Alisha Keeter. He is survived by a son Scott Keeter and his wife Bobbie of Bixby; two daughters, Jamie Bennett and her husband Everett of Sapulpa, and Bonnie Keeter of Sapulpa; his granddaughter Alyshia Hurley and her husband Brian and their daughter Aubree Watkins, grandson Erik Keeter and his wife Amanda and their daughter Kaylee; grandsons Christian, Matthew, and Chase Borland; and granddaughters Abbie Bennett and Anna Buntin.
Viewing for Mr. Keeter will be at Moore's Southlawn, 9350 E. 51st St., Tulsa on Thursday from 10AM-8PM. Memorial Services will be 2 PM Friday, February 22, 2019, at Moore's Southlawn Chapel with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
