James Paul Beck was born on February 6, 1929 in Miami, Oklahoma to James M. and Frankie L. (Roe) Beck. Jim spent his formative years in Miami, Pueblo, Colorado and Kaw City, OK, graduating from Kaw City High School in 1947. Jim earned his Arts Baccalaureate in Religious Studies and attended graduate school at Phillips University in Enid, OK.

Jim married his wife Audrey in August 1949 and was ordained in the ministry by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in about 1954. Jim continued in ministry through early 1981. He served in churches in Elk City, KS; Erick, OK; Cyril, OK; Lamont, OK; Arkansas City, KS; Broken Arrow, OK and Wagoner, OK. After leaving the ministry, Jim worked as a Respiratory Therapist at St. Francis Hospital and completed his Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy at Tulsa Junior College in 1982.

Jim and Audrey lived in Tulsa, OK from 1981 through May 2016. Jim and Audrey moved to assisted living at Lakepoint in Wichita, KS in June 2016.

Jim is survived by his sons and their wives: James E. and Susan Beck of Clay Center, KS, Richard and Pat Beck of Katy, TX; grandchildren and their spouses: Jill and Marcus Hammond, Jamie and Dan Proffer; great-grandchildren: Phoebe Mattingly, Caden and Caleb Proffer. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Agnes Proudfoot, his wife, Audrey, and his granddaughter, Krista Beck.
