Jane P. Deal

Jane P. Deal of Tulsa passed away on April 17, 2015 at Hillcrest Medical Center following a sudden and short illness. Jane was born in Lumberton, North Carolina on Dec. 14,1936 to James and Emily Phillips. Jane was a graduate of the 1955 Class of Lumberton High School. She obtained a Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina College for Women in Greensboro. After graduating, Jane taught the children of our military families in Germany and Japan. This gave Jane a chance to travel extensively. She developed a lifelong love of travel. Some of her favorite destinations were Europe, Florida, and the Southwest.

Jane returned to Tulsa in 1969 when she decided to change careers to Nursing. She attended the St Johns School of Nursing and obtained her R.N. Jane then worked at St John's Hospital for 25 years in the Emergency Room, Infectious Disease Department and Employee Health Services. Jane married George W. Deal on December 19, 1992. While Jane did not have children of her own, she lovingly embraced George's family.

Jane was active in the sailing community for several years and was involved with the Windy Crest Sailing Club. She was certified in open sea scuba diving. Her other interests included sewing, knitting, reading, swimming and gardening. She belonged to hobby groups such as Knit Wits, Book Club, and Merry Mermaids where she enjoyed the company of beloved friends.

Along with her husband George, Jane was an active member of Boston Avenue Methodist Church where she and George were married. She belonged to the Round Table Sunday School Class, Methodist Women's Circle, various Bible Studies and the COMPassion Ministry. Jane also performed community service through The Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, Neighbor for Neighbor and Linnaeus Gardens.

Mostly, Jane treasured time with her family and friends. She is survived by and will be deeply missed by her husband, George Deal and her children: Pam Markham and her husband Larry, Kelly Deal and his wife Jennifer, Carol Farrell and her husband Kevin. Jane is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Ashlei and Mollie Deal, Julia Weakley, K.C. Farrell, and Sonya James along with 6 great grandchildren. Jane is preceded in death by her parents and is survived by one brother, James Phillips Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church with Dr. Bill Tankersley officiating. The church is located at 1301 S. Boston Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74119.

The family has requested memorials be made to Boston Avenue United Methodist Church COMPassion Ministry or another church ministry of one's choice.
