Obituary

Janet Phyllis Fluke, 87, of Tulsa, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2024. Born in Rolla, Missouri, on January 10, 1937, Janet led a life full of love, dedication, and cheer.

Janet pursued higher education at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Tulsa, where she was a proud member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Initially, Janet was a devoted stay-at-home mother, raising her children with love and care. As her children grew, she embarked on a career as a secretary and later served as an assistant to Psychologist Dr Harry Wheeler. Janet's entrepreneurial spirit shone through when she owned and operated her own gift shop, 'Spice of Life,' a highlight of her career. She was also an active and dedicated member of the Kiwanis Club in Tahlequah.

Janet married David E. Shorten and together they had two children, Julie Anne Washington and David E. Shorten Jr. Later in life, she married Col. Eugene C. Fluke, with whom she traveled extensively and shared many happy years.

Janet was known for her unwavering love for her family, her cheerful disposition, and her talent for storytelling. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was lovingly known as Granny.

She is survived by her son, David E. Shorten Jr. and daughter-in-law June Shorten; stepdaughters Deborah Allen, Michelle Fluke, and Lisa Jennings; her grandchildren Rebecca Anne Brown, Jessica Lynn Williams, Amandah Jean Hackenberger, Mikayla Kristine Shorten, and Jennifer Leigh Shorten; and her great-grandchildren Jonathan Allen Brown, Jaylee Paige Williams, Hunter Henry-Lee Ledbetter, Kole Ryan Williams, Cadyn Forrest Ledbetter, Julia Rian McGarry, Serenity Faith Ledbetter, MacKenzie Anne Brown, Holly Jade Moore, Lakyn Grace Williams, and Maddison Dawn Ledbetter.

Janet was preceded in death by her late husband, Col. Eugene C. Fluke; her daughter, Julie Anne Washington; and her granddaughter, Alicia Dawn Washington.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday May 24, 2024, at Moore Funeral Homes Eastlawn Chapel, located at 1908 S. Memorial, Tulsa, OK 74112. For more information, please contact (918) 583-6148.
