Janet Allen (Hunter) Whited died Saturday, August 3rd, 2013 at the age of 96. She was born in Hope, Arkansas, on December 14, 1916. Her parents were LeRoy and Lois Beattie Allen.
Janet graduated from Tulsa Central High School, class of 1934, and from the Oklahoma School of Business and Accounting. In 1941, she married William (Bill) Howard Hunter, one of five sons and one daughter of the Robert C. Hunter family of Tulsa.
Following World War II, the couple moved to Oklahoma City and raised a family. After Bill Hunter's death in 1969, Janet worked for the State of Oklahoma's Purchasing Department until retirement in 1982. In 1995 she moved back to Tulsa and became reacquainted with Donald M. Whited whose deceased wife had been a dear friend of Janet's since high school. Janet and Don were married on June 8th, 1996.
Janet is survived by husband, Don Whited; two sons and their wives, Howard Hunter and Carolyn of Tampa, Florida and Dr. Richard Hunter and Marcia of Dover, Florida; four grand children, William H. Hunter III and wife Eliza of Tampa, Robyn Yarborough and husband Scott of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Andrew Hunter of Lakeland, Florida, and Rebecca Hunter of Austin, Texas; three great grand children, Zoe Hunter of Tampa, Hunter Yarborough of Simpsonville and Austin Yarborough of Simpsonville.
Additionally, she is survived by two step daughters Janis Bates and husband Doug of Richardson, Texas, and Donna Whited of Reston, Virginia; and four step grandsons, Michael, Garrett, Trevor and Stefan Bates. Janet Hunter Whited was a member of the First Presbyterian Churches of Oklahoma City and Tulsa for a combined total of 95 years. Her interests were religion, music and genealogy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Department of the First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa, or to the charity of your choice.
