Janie Hoskin Goins died March 31, 2016 in Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by her family.
Janie was born December 15, 1947 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Sam and Sammie Hoskin. Her father was a union ironworker and her mother was a homemaker. She was raised in Vinita, Oklahoma with her older brother James "Tosk" and younger brother Chuck. In her early years they lived in the country where she spent carefree days playing baseball with her brothers and tending her calf Ferdinand. She was known by her older brother as the "best baseball shagger in town" and a pretty darn good little outfielder.
The family later moved into town where she attended Sacred Heart Academy and Vinita High School. It was there that she met the true love of her life, Roger Goins. They were married August 21, 1964 not long before he went to Vietnam with the Air Force. Upon his discharge Roger also became a union ironworker and Janie was a homemaker and part time college student. They had two children, daughter Jennifer and son Roger, and eventually moved to Claremore, where they lived until 1988.
Janie eventually graduated from the University of Tulsa with a degree in Nursing, which had always been her dream. She was very proud of her nursing degree and her family was, too, especially her father. Over the years she worked as a nurse in many capacities but most enjoyed her time over the last 15 years as a school nurse.
Her world crashed down around her when she lost her husband much too soon in 1999, but shining light was just around the corner. By this time her son Roger was married to Susan and her first grandchild Liz was born in April 1999, which helped the whole family move forward. It only got better a few years later when Emma came along in 2003. Nothing made her happier than being GG and spending time with her girls.
Janie enjoyed sewing, doing home improvement and decorating projects, gardening, and shopping. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and the travels and adventures they shared together. From Jamaica, to Octoberfest in Munich or New Year's Eve in Paris to our annual pilgrimages to Disneyland, she loved them all and enjoyed every minute. Janie cherished her family, smiled at the thought of seeing her family thrive, and so much valued every family event, invitation, and phone call. She looked forward to campaign seasons and was so proud of her "baby" brother. And her own baby girl, Jennifer- oh my, how Janie loved her and appreciated the endless sacrifices that Jennifer made in her own life to share a life with her. Jennifer was able to show Janie a world she would have missed otherwise; traveling from coast-to-coast and exploring Europe, Janie saw the world with her baby girl at her side.
She is survived by daughter Jennifer, son Roger, daughter (in-law) Susan, granddaughters Liz and Emma, brother Jim and his wife Edwina, brother Chuck and his wife Stephanie, nieces and nephews Amy, Charles (and wife, January), Rachel (and husband Jarrett), Sam and Amelia, and great nieces and nephews Tori and Shelby, Tristan and Jasmine, Zane and Ella Grace, and Thomas Henry.
She is preceded in death by her husband Roger, father Sam and mother Sammie.
