Jarene Caffey Robison was born February 19, 1928, to W.V. "Bud" and Jewel Caffey. Jarene died peacefully at home on November 7, 2022.
She had one sister, Joyce Caffey Weston, and one brother, Donald Caffey; both are deceased.
Jarene married John Truman Robison on Sept. 10, 1948. Truman passed in 2007 after 59 years of marriage.
She is survived by one daughter Trudy Robison, one son Vaughn David Robison, one daughter-in-law Susan Lee Robison. In addition she has 5 grandsons: Jared Steven Prejean, Aaron Justin Prejean, Jacob David Robison, John Caleb Robison, and Marlon Geovanny Funez. Also Jarene has 7 great-grandchildren.
Jarene attended Webster High School, where she managed the book store for 3 years, and she attended Tulsa University. She grew up in Baptist churches and was active her entire life in the church as well as in the Woman's Missionary Union (WMU). This involvement began at a young age in Sunbeams, which was led by her mother. At age 17, Jarene surrendered to missions at Falls Creek Baptist Assembly but didn't pursue a mission career for years. She and Truman were in the process of being appointed to a foreign mission assignment when Truman suffered a severe heart attack while on a mission trip in the Philippines. Truman's health issues ended the possibility of an appointment. Jarene traveled to numerous states on mission trips. Also she traveled on mission trips to Liberia, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Spain, Guinea, as well as many others. Her love of missions is evident in her many overseas and home mission trips. The last of her many mission trips was to the Maldives at age 80.
She has been a member of First Baptist Church, Tulsa, for over 50 years and taught a women's Bible study class for 42 years. She served as the WMU Director for Phoenix Avenue Baptist Church, View Acres Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church all in Tulsa. She was also WMU Director for the Tulsa Baptist Association for several years. She served 4 years as Oklahoma WMU President, as well as other positions with Oklahoma WMU. She was a conference leader at Glorieta and Ridgecrest Baptist Assemblies. In addition she was known for her public speaking and writing for National WMU and the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board.
Jarene served 2 terms on the board of Directors for the Oklahoma Baptist General Convention and 2 terms on the board of Oklahoma Baptist University. She was on the Advisory Council of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and was a long-time contributor and member of the Mainland Advisory Board of the Hawaii Baptist Academy.
In 1992 Tulsa Baptist Association honored Jarene as Volunteer of the Year for Tulsa.
Jarene is credited with the beginning of DaySpring Villa, a shelter for abused women and their children. DaySpring Villa is now known as The Spring. She served as President of the Board of Directors of DaySpring for 11 years. DaySpring has ministered to and sheltered numerous women and children since it opened in 1995.
