Obituary

Norma Jean Douglass

Known as Jean by friends and family, a kind and caring wife and mother. Jean passed away at Bellarose Memory Care in Tulsa on February 15, 2025, at the age of 92.

Jean was born on August 5, 1932, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Laura and Cullace Grove. She was the youngest of four children. Jean had two brothers, David and Warren, and a sister, Christine. She was a kind and loving wife, as well as an amazing mother. Jean graduated from Central High School in Tulsa. She was married to her high school sweetheart Norvel (Doug) Douglass on September 22, 1950, in Tulsa. They had an incredible life together, married 72 years.

Jean began her career at the Tulsa Election Board, but spent most of her career in the Tulsa Public Schools working in the office at East Central High School, as the secretary at Carnegie Elementary, and at the Education Service Center in the Special Education Department. Jean enjoyed weekends with family and friends at their place on the Illinois River near Tahlequah. Jean was an avid collector of antiques and collectables, with a special love for old Christmas items. She was also instrumental in the creation of a Bingo Group which met monthly for decades, beginning when Clayton was in his playpen and lasting through the members' golden years.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Allied Home Health & Hospice and the wonderful people at Bellarose Memory Care for their loving, patient, and compassionate care. Mom loved her life there and maintained her positivity until her last breath.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Cullace and Laura Grove; her siblings; David Grove, Warren Grove & Christine Bauchman; and her husband, Doug, and is survived by her son, Clayton; daughter-in-law Jeannie (Furr) Douglass, her daughter, Debbie Douglass; daughter-in-law Marsha Hilton, her granddaughters Erica Johnson & husband Eric; Sara Fowler & husband Will, all of Broken Arrow, as well as ten great grandchildren: Perry, Parker, & Libby Benedict, Corban, Clayt, Wyatt, Atlea, & Maverick Johnson, Josie & Jax Fowler; and a host of family and friends that will forever miss her.
