Jean B. Reeder passed away peacefully Wednesday December 19, 2018 at her home at Inverness Village in Tulsa, OK. She was born April 4, 1922 in her Grandparents farmhouse in rural Gallia County, Ohio to B. McGuffey and Carrie (Grover) Bowman. Jean grew up and attended school in Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from Ohio State University with a B.A. in Journalism. While at Ohio State University she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
As a member of the Greatest Generation, she served her country as a United States Navy WAVE during WWII as a cryptographer. In 1953 she and Louis R. "Bob" Reeder were married and established their home in Caracas Venezuela. They relocated to Tulsa in 1957. Jean was a loving and devoted wife and mother, a homemaker, and active volunteer. Over the years she served as a home-room mother, Camp-fire girl leader, Sunday school teacher, PTA member, member of the League of Women Voters, member and officer of the Tulsa Geological and Geophysical Association Auxiliary, Gilcrease Museum docent, and member of the Assistance League of Tulsa. She was an active member of John Knox Presbyterian which she joined in 1957.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years and her parents and brother. She is survived by her daughter, Meredith Reeder of Adair, OK; and son Louis R. Reeder, Jr. and wife Tepricia of Story City, IA; grandchildren Evan Reeder, T.C. (Jessica) Anthony; Andrew (Andrea) Anthony; and Kira (Luke) Romens and five great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., January 4, 2019 at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 2929 E. 31st.
