Obituary

Jean Standlee Benton, 76, of Tulsa, OK, peacefully entered eternal life, with her two granddaughters holding her hands, on Thursday, September 24, 2020. She was born on Thursday, January 13, 1944, in Bath, North Carolina, one of fourteen children, to Alton T. Windley and Leah (Bradley) Windley.

Central to Jean's life was her faith, and she would most want to be remembered for pointing others to Christ. She had an unshakable faith, read her Bible daily, was a life-long prayer warrior, and many depended on her as an intercessor and someone they could come to in their time of need. Jean loved the Lord with her whole heart, and was a role model to her family and others, as she walked out her Christian life, and she leaves a lasting, loving legacy. She enjoyed helping people, exemplified grace and love towards everyone, had a kind, generous, giving spirit, and no matter what she did, she did it all as unto the Lord. She was a faithful member of Church On The Move, Tulsa, OK, where she was one of the original "Readers," enjoyed attending Bible Class, taking cruises with her church's Senior Saints Oasis Group, and various other church activities.

A servant, Jean served in a way that her relationship and dependence on Christ was evident. She was exceptionally generous to others with her time, care, and love. Being a homemaker was a job she took great pride in. Her home was well-kept, rarely leaving a task undone. As a committed wife and mother, she prioritized her family's needs and likes above her own. Jean had a true gift for hospitality, and enjoyed cooking and serving, whether for every day or holidays and special occasions. She valued her friendships and relationships with family. She prioritized them, praying for them daily, and always made time to call or send a card. Jean took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and it was one of her greatest pleasures to spend time with them. To her family, Jean was the kind, talented, persevering, and tenacious woman spoken of in Proverbs 31.

Jean is survived by her husband of 30 years, Harold Benton; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several siblings; a stepson and stepdaughter; and a lifetime of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved first husband of 30 years, Charles Burton Standlee (PaPa to his grandchildren), who died on July 11, 1986; daughter, Connie Piguet, daughter, Karen Barden, and a stepdaughter, Debbie Clark.

We were privileged to have Jean in our lives, and she will be greatly missed in the days ahead. There is no doubt that Jean will be rewarded to hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant." And, we who are saved and know the Lord, have joy in our hearts, resting in the assurance we will be with her again, in Heaven, one day soon. What a day, glorious day that will be!
