Jean Lynn Gray Walton was born March 4, 1939 to Milton and Edith Gray in Woodward, Oklahoma and grew up in Newton, Kansas.
She attended Emporia State Teacher's College.
Jean met Chuck Walton in the summer of 1958 at the Corner Cupboard in Grand Lake, Colorado. They had a fast friendship that turned into deep love. On a bench near the restaurant, they shared their first kiss.
Chuck followed her home to Kansas so they could continue on this great adventure. He took any job he could in Newton so that he could ask her to marry him.
They did get married on April 11, 1959, and raced away to Wichita for a quick honeymoon.
Within 2 years, they had their first daughter, Elizabeth Marie, while Chuck went to college.
Rebecca Lynn arrived three years later right after Chuck graduated from Wichita State University.
Jean continued to love and be a support to Chuck as he began his first job at First Securities in Wichita.
James Douglas arrived next in 1968.
Since Doug Doug had some challenges with a cleft palate and cleft lip, she worked tirelessly with doctors and coordinating appointments for his doctor visits and many surgeries.
Jean was always up for traveling whether it be in the car to Vail, in the pop up camper, or work trips with Chuck.
For a while, Jean had an extensive owl collection. She collected many things and made life fun for her family. She even let one of her children bring home a pet skunk for the weekend. Jean had a portable cassette player in the car to listen to music like John Denver or the Eagles. Sometimes she would record the three kids arguing in the back seat. Then she would play it back for them to show them how silly they sounded.
As Chuck's work moved him from Wichita to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Jean got the family and the pets ready to move across the country.
Jean searched and found Jesus and led the whole family to the right church, Mountain View Baptist Church in Glenwood Springs. The whole family was baptized together in the world famous Hot Springs Pool.
Jean was very talented with cross stitch and was also a seamstress, making both daughter's wedding dresses.
She was active in both her church and Christian Women's Club. Jean was a loving and loyal friend who had many friends wherever she lived.
Jean was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Tulsa.
She was famous among friends and family for making Pfeffernu'sse (Pepper nut) cookies.
Jean's fierce love for Chuck was evident to everyone who met them throughout their 66 years of marriage. She supported each of her children as they began to live our own lives.
Her favorite verses from the Bible were from Psalm 139. "You wove me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
Jean and Chuck loved living at Zarrow Pointe in Tulsa for more than 17 years.
Jean went to be with Jesus on December 17, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Edith Gray and her sister, Jan Anderson.
