Jerry Lee Dodson passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at his home in Tulsa after a long battle with cancer. Jerry was born August 6, 1940 in Webb City, Missouri, the son of Floyd and Nina Madge (Turner) Dodson. Jerry was a lifelong musician and won many honors and awards for his vocal performances. He attended college at Kansas State College of Pittsburg (now Pittsburg State University) on a choral scholarship and upon completing his degree in accounting and earning his CPA he joined Arthur Andersen while also singing with the Kansas City Opera.
Jerry had a distinguished professional career in accounting and as a restaurateur, including serving as both a franchisee and executive with Mazzio's Corporation for many years. He served as a Former National Vice President of the Institute of Management Accountants as well as serving on a number of nonprofit boards, including the Tulsa Opera and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Jerry was also an active member of Harvard Avenue Christian Church where he frequently sang in the choir.
Jerry was a consummate professional and a good friend to many who will dearly miss his booming call of "Greetings!" and ready smile.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his daughter, Elaine O'Gorman and her husband Kevin of Dallas; his daughter Suzanne Wright and her husband Doug of Tulsa; his son Jeff Murry of Tulsa; five grandchildren, Julia O'Gorman, Alyssa O'Gorman and William O'Gorman of Dallas and Mackenzie Wright and Jacob Wright of Tulsa. Jerry will be missed by the many he touched.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 4 at 2:00 P.M. at Harvard Avenue Christian Church, 5502 S. Harvard Ave., Tulsa.
