Jerry Mitchell Garrett passed away at home on July 9, 2024 at the age of 84 in his hometown of Tulsa, OK. Always the loving, family man, Jerry waited to depart this world until all those he considered his were back under one roof, and took his last breath surrounded by family. The space left in all the lives he touched is significant to say the least.
Jerry lived a long and full life. In 1958, Jerry graduated from Central High School in Tulsa. He then went on to college at the Oklahoma State University, where he met the love of his life, V.C., in the student union after she and her friends swooned after him. He would go on to graduate with a Bachelors in Business. Jerry and V.C. married on April 21, 1962, enjoying over 62 years together at the time of his death. Because of their love, many more lives exist; to include 3 children, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Anyone that knew him, knew Jerry was not one to stay idle because there was always so much life to be lived. After retiring from being an insurance broker at 58, Jerry was not content with retired life and continued to work part-time well past 80! Known for his acts of service to anyone, even to strangers, it is no surprise Jerry was an active volunteer with HomeLife and A New Leaf. As for his hobbies, even though he admittedly never played well, the man loved a good game of golf. When he wasn't golfing or playing Hearts, he was always busy with his grandkids and most recently his great grands, whether it was lending a hand, offering advice, sharing laughs, or on occasion, hollering at them to, "be quiet".
Jerry was preceded in death by his only sibling, Virgil Garrett; his father, Roy Garrett; and his mother, Roberta "Petie" Semple. He is survived by his wife, V.C. Garrett; his children Kelley, Steve and Brent; his grandchildren, Ashleigh, Madison, Garrett, Ali, Sophi, Hudson, Alec, Emilee and Jake; and his great grandchildren, Garrett, Griffin, Derrik, Reiya, Oliver, Daisy and Teagan. Services to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday July 13th, 2024 at 11:00 am, at Unity of Tulsa - Midtown, 3355 S Jamestown Ave, Tulsa OK, 74135. Please, in lieu of flowers, send a donation in Jerry's name to either A New Leaf or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
