Obituary

Jerry L. Isaacs met the Savior in person on Monday, February 20, 2017 in his Tulsa residence. He had had an extended illness with pulmonary fibrosis and Wegeners disease. He retired in October, 2016 after working for almost twenty years as the Director of Finance for the Oklahoma Manufacturing Alliance.

Jerry was born May 8, 1938, to Harry Isaacs and Nina Layton Isaacs near Terre Haute, Indiana. He grew up there, and graduated from Concannon High School and Indiana State. On June 26, 1960, he married Joyce Campbell, and they moved to Tulsa in 1963. Jerry had various careers in business, including brokering mutual funds and facilitating real estate investments, before ending up in his position with the Alliance. At one point, he served as US office manager for Bridges for Peace, an organization bringing Christians and Jews together.

Jerry's community work over the years has included actively advocating for education, as an officer and director of the Association for Learning Disabilities. He helped build the Tulsa chapter, served as state president, and national Vice President. In 1975 Jerry was invited to participate in a meeting at the White House giving input on PL 94-142.

In the 1970's he served on the national board of Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, a mission to engage college students to find the truth about the meaning of life. He was the first director of Tulsa's Walk for Mankind that benefited Project Concern, a medical mission group in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Since 2006 Jerry has been trustee of Aim High Academy. He was one of the original incorporators and was quite passionate about the goal of the ministry to build bright futures for children and youth in North Tulsa.

He was an active member of Tulsa First Baptist Church since 1963 and served as an adult and youth leader. Until his illness, he served as an usher. His faith in Christ was a big part of who he was.

Survivors from Tulsa include his wife Joyce, his son Brent Isaacs, his daughter Beth Layton Balan, his son-in-law Luis Balan; his sister Mildred Warner and husband Bill of Paris, Illinois, his sister Cora Berg of Las Vegas, NV, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Moore's Southlawn.
