Obituary

Lt. Col. Jerry Stan McKinney was born March 8, 1925 in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. He went to join his family in heaven on February 6, 2018.
McKinney faithfully served his family alongside his wife of more than 50 years, Dorothy. Better known as "Pops", he was father to three daughters, grandfather to four granddaughters and great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren.
He dutifully served his country as World War II marked the start of his aviation career. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and later the United States Air Force, where he served for more than 20 years. He flew countless missions in World War II, Korea, and many brave, unspoken flights during the Cold War. Piloting B-26s and later B-52s as a Strategic Air Command pilot, he always had a love of the skies.
He is best remembered for having a smile on his face and a cigar in his hand as he danced through life. He loved his daily walks and his nightly dances. He would strike up a conversation with any one and would humbly share his war stories of heroism and humor if you asked him.
He is survived by daughter Annette Morey and son-in-law James Morey of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his daughter Denise Ellis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his sister, Pat Willis of Abilene, Texas, his beloved companion Charlene Wood of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his granddaughter Camy Carter of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; granddaughters Lisa Myers of Denver, Colorado, Sarah Taylor of Lubbock, Texas and Andrea Morey of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Dalton Myers, Ryker Carter, Hudson Taylor, Elliott Myers and Grace Taylor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy McKinney, and his daughter Jo Carrol McKinney.
Thanks and praise, for our days,
'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh
