Obituary

Jerry Lee Spradlin, age 80, died on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, in Tulsa, OK, after a lengthy battle with emphysema and lung cancer. Jerry was born to Carter Young and Anna Lois (Jackson) Spradlin on October 15, 1938, in Wichita, KS, and was raised on farms in southwest Oklahoma and Arizona.

He graduated from Chandler High School, Chandler, Arizona, in 1956. He was active in FFA throughout High School raising registered Suffolk sheep for show winning many championships. In 1956 he was awarded the FFA State Farmer in the State of Arizona. Jerry attended Arizona State University and Spartan Aeronautics in Tulsa. He served in the United States Air Force including the Air Guard. Jerry spent the majority of his career as a salesman for Ditch Witch equipment dealers in several States and was recognized for his customer service and sales records.

But Jerry's true identity came from his faith in and love of the Lord Jesus Christ. He had a servants heart and spent his lifetime in quiet service. His involvement was vast: everything from mowing and trimming trees, moving chairs and tables, greeting at the front door, manning the security room to working in AWANA, facilitating Bible studies, being a student of the Word, singing bass in the choir and faithfully supporting his local church at all levels. He served his community as well volunteering his time for many years with Arms Around Broken Arrow. Jerry's passion, however, was serving with Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief. Beginning with Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Jerry volunteered countless hours on the feeding units serving those affected by natural disasters in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Colorado. It was his joy to bring the love of Jesus to those in need.
Jerry's outside interests were varied as well. He had one of the best kept yards in the neighborhood, loved woodworking, and doing anything that would take him outdoors. He was also a pretty fair country cook and a master story teller. Jerry loved life...liked to travel, was devoted to his wife and family, loved to visit and always had a ready smile and positive outlook.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Terry, and sisters LaVerta Wood and Jean Worley. He is survived by his wife, Judy Harris Spradlin, son James Carter Spradlin of Marana, AZ, daughter Vikki Lucinda Spradlin of Salem, OR, and sister Phyllis Joan Prince (Jim) of Weatherford, TX, and many cousins, nieces & nephews and friends.

The Memorial Service to celebrate Jerry's life will be at Evergreen Baptist Church, 10301 E 111th Street South, Bixby, OK, at 11:00a on Thursday, October 18, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to BGCO, Attn: Disaster Relief, 3600 North May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73112.
