Obituary

Jimmy "Jim" Warren-Tulsa's own Mr. Fix-It, jokester extraordinaire, and champion Dad-traded in his toolkit for angel wings on January 17, 2024.

Born in 1950, Jim was pre-wired with a screwdriver in his hand and a grin on his face. He tackled life with the same enthusiasm he brought to an auction-finding joy in anything from fire trucks to flamingo statues and just about everything in between!

Jim graduated from McClain High School in 1968 and attended Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology and The University of Tulsa, eventually becoming a mechanical engineer. Jim built his career with John Zink Co. for 35 years and went on to live his passion for empowering folks with knowledge as the head of Platt College and founder of his own learning haven, Star Training Institute. He truly believed knowledge and education were power. For the past six years, Jim worked for Zeeco and was a member of The University of Tulsa Mechanical Engineering Board.

Jim met his wife, Cathy Guinn, at 16 and they married at 19-a marriage that would last 54 glorious years. Together, they raised two daughters, Kim and Karen, who inherited their dad's smarts and humor (thankfully not his magic act) and grew up with the coolest treehouse, stilts, and a huge teeter-totter.

Jim loved watching Grand Lake and Flint Creek sunsets while listening to the raucous cheer of grandkids coming from the archery range, paintball course, and ATV trails he built. He could also never resist the siren call of an auction, rodeo, or TU game (Go Golden Hurricane!). He greeted the world with a smile as a Carbondale Assembly of God door greeter-proving even angels appreciate a good laugh.

Jim charmed his way into our hearts, dreamed up blueprints of decks and docks for everyone, and loved family like fireworks on the Fourth. He could build a boat from toothpicks, tell the best dad jokes, and fix anything except that leaky faucet in our hearts.

We'll miss your mischievous twinkle, your surprise trailer deliveries, and the way you could turn any ordinary day into an adventure. But most of all, we'll miss your love, Dad. It was as boundless as your collection of knives and twice as heartwarming. We'll keep your memory alive with laughter, a little less magic (thank goodness), and a whole lot of love. Until we meet again, cheers to an all-around awesome guy-the best husband, dad, father-in-law, and grandpa the world ever knew.

Jim's memory is carried on today by his wife, Cathy (Guinn) Warren; his daughters, Kim Pool and Karen Darby (husband Bobby); his grandchildren, Garrett Pool (wife Anya), Jackson Pool, Elise Darby, Hudson Darby, and Davis Darby; his brothers, Greg Warren (wife Evelyn) and Matt Warren (wife Ronie); his brother-in-law, Bill Guinn (wife Mary); and his sister-in-law, Barbara Staggers.

P.S. We're keeping the fire truck...you wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
