JOAN FRANCES NIGHTINGALE
OBITUARY
A fitting end for a life well led... Joan Frances Nightingale passed away peacefully surrounded by three generations of family in April, 2025. Joan was born in 1933 to Douglas and Veronica Pope, and grew up with her beloved only sister, Mary. Life-long friendships began in Marquette schools through high school. Joan furthered her skills for shorthand, typing and bookkeeping, which she continued to use working to the very end of her life. Joan took on the world serving as an Administrative Assistant in both the oil and gas and insurance industries.
Joan married the love of her life, Leonard (Nute) Nightingale, April, 1956, whom she met playing shuffleboard. Joan and Nute were proud to be one of the founding families of St. Pius X Church which led to an active church and social life playing games and having fun with a large group of Pius friends. Travel was a passion for the couple, traveling to Hot Springs, yearly, several family trips to Ruidoso and nine trips to Europe; many of these with family and dear friends.
Christian service was a priority for Joan as she served on numerous ministries and committees over the years. Bible study groups became one of her most valued endeavors in her later years. In 2019, Joan received the Tulsa Catholic Conference of Women Achievement Award with humble gratitude with many family members and friends in attendance to honor her servant's heart.
The strongest testament to Joan's life of dedication to her Christian values is her love and devotion to her family. Joan was known by many as the #1 sports, dance and music fan tirelessly attending sports games, dance competitions/recitals, piano/voice recitals and swim meets. None was louder in cheering on her kids and grand-kids than Joan Nightingale. She was a strong prayer warrior for all those she loved, attending daily Mass up to the week she passed. She lived her life, dedicated to Christ and her beloved family. Joan Nightingale was a blessing to all and her legacy has left her imprint on our lives forever.
Joan was preceded in death by her mother, father, sister and beloved husband of more than 60 years, Nute. She is survived by her much-loved children Cindy (Jim), Danny (Marybeth), Mark (Dianna) and Steve (Rebecca). She is further survived by her grandchildren: Alexa, Erin (Ben), Austin, Sam, Rachel and her great-granddaughter: Evy.
