Joann Stewart Lukken (89), most loved and adored wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on July 28, 2015. Joann was born September 25, 1925 in Independence, Kansas to the late Mattie Josephine and Blanchard Leander Stewart. She attended Will Rogers High School, graduating in 1943. She pledged Kappa Delta Sorority and soon after fell for Bob Lukken, the handsome jazz pianist in the University's band. She was President of the sorority her senior year and graduated in 1948 with a B.S. in Business. Bob and Joann were married in 1949, had four daughters, and shared sixty-four wonderful years together. In 1959, Joann won the title of Mrs. Tulsa and was one of the five finalists in the Mrs. Oklahoma Contest.
Joann was involved in numerous charitable organizations and served on many boards including Philharmonic, Tulsa Children's Home, the Seed and Weed Garden Club, SAI, and the National Linen Registry. Joann was president of Children's Day Nursery and the Philbrook PACers Auxiliary where she helped start the Festival of Trees and the Perfect Setting fundraising events. She was a member of the Yaya Bridge Club.
Joann had that special something that made you want to be with her. Her personal charisma, inviting smile, and warmth drew you in. Her positive spirit was stimulating. She loved talking to people and she gave you her full attention, actively listening with great interest. She loved to hear about you. Bloom where you're planted! The adage she lived by. Joann always saw the glass half full and was determined to make the best of any health struggles thrown her way.
Joann is reunited with her husband, Robert Lukken, daughter Lucia Hrncir of Dallas, and sister Virginia Stewart of Tulsa. She is survived by three daughters, Diane Lukken of Dallas, Claudia (Randy) Imel of Jenks, and Adele (Paul) Peterson of Eden Prairie; son-in-law Pat Hrncir; and her ten grandchildren, Nicole, Stewart, Luke, Hayden, Jack, Bobby, Paige, Lucia, Paula and Luke.
Family will receive friends between 4:00 and 7:00 P.M., July 30 at Moore's Rosewood Chapel, 2570 S. Harvard. A private interment followed by a memorial service will be held at John Knox Presbyterian Church at 11:00 A.M. on July 31. In her memory, donations can be made to the Lukken Music Scholarship at the University of Tulsa School of Music, 800 S. Tucker Drive, Tulsa 74104.
